- McKinsey & Company, “The state of AI in 2026: On the road to ROI,” August 25, 2026.
Nearly nine in ten respondents report regular AI use in at least one business function; 44 percent report AI scaling across their enterprise; 37 percent attribute at least some EBIT impact to AI.

Employers expect 39% of key skills required in the job market to change by 2030. (The report also projects 170 million jobs created and 92 million displaced this decade; this site does not use those figures.)

Data centres accounted for around 1.5% of world electricity consumption in 2024, about 415 TWh; consumption is set to more than double to around 945 TWh by 2030.

Firms along the AI value chain have increasingly relied on circular financing arrangements with hyperscalers at the center; the report judges the financial stability impact modest currently, and notes that sizeable AI investment could raise debt levels and interconnectedness.

Glossary
- Micro Operating Model (MOM)
- A defined operating capability coordinating AI, existing IT, Human Intelligence, authority, controls and economic objectives around one operating problem.
- Operating Architecture
- The common decision rights, evidence and measures that let MOMs work together inside one enterprise.
- Governed Economic Energy
- The capacity to convert intelligence, technology, human judgment and capital into productive, accountable economic outcomes.
- Activate
- Bring a MOM into operation progressively: observe, simulate, authorize, then expand, hold or stop. MOMs are never “installed.”
- Observe · Simulate · Authorized
- Simulator modes. Observe is read-only; Simulate projects outcomes under assumptions; Authorized executes actions within delegated authority and waits for people above thresholds.
- Upboarding
- Preparing people to perform defined work inside a modernized Operating Model, with destination, skills, authority and measures settled before the move.
- Talent Mobility
- People continuing to move toward higher-value work inside the enterprise as the work keeps changing.
- Capital Glasses
- Seeing every operating choice in terms of the capital it consumes, releases or puts at risk.
- Operating Leverage
- Output rising faster than the resources committed to produce it.
- Complexity Ceiling
- The point at which interactions among people, applications and agents outgrow an operation’s ability to cope.
- Projected · Executed · Realized
- Projected figures follow assumptions. Executed means an action has the required approvals in a simulation. Realized means measured and verified in operation; no realized outcomes are shown on this site.
Scenario assumptions are listed inside the simulator (Explain assumptions) and on the Capital Glasses page, where every value can be edited.
